The Diva is back!

Israel: Dana International -Ding Dong

Ding dong! Who’s there? Well if it isn't Dana International, the one and only Israeli diva. She’s back, and more flamboyant than ever. And let’s not start that “is it he or she” debate, who cares what’s going on below Dana’s belt… Ok, were all curious, so let’s just state the facts: She was born a man, today she’s a woman although were not really sure what’s left of her male…parts. But let’s put that aside and focus on Dana the artist; She couldn’t sing in key if her life depended on it and her songs would probably fit better in the Junior ESC, but there is just something fabulous about her that makes the song itself secondary to the character that she is.

“Ding dong” is a typical Euro disco song which is easy to remember and is good for 3 or 4 listening’s, which is just enough for the ESC. It’s not the summer hit of the year, but I’m sure you’ll hear this in selected (gay) clubs across Europe for the rest of the year. This is a song for those who don’t take themselves too seriously. You gotta have some gut’s to get up and dance to this, but then again if you take that chance you’ll realize that it's great to just let go and not give a damn about what everybody else may say or think about you, and to me that is the very essence of what Dana International is all about.

I don’t really understand though why someone who’s already won the competition would participate again. Johnny Logan won twice for Ireland, but other than that nobody has ever succeeded in bringing home the victory twice. Israel haven’t had too much success over the last decade and I guess by dusting off good old Dana they’re hoping for some good fortune, but I think maybe the days of the genderless good times are over. Although I love Dana and I would like nothing more but for her to triumph, It seems a little desperate of Israel to try this recipe again. I doubt it’s gonna work.
