Something old, something new and MUCH borrowed.

Denmark: A Friend in London - New Tomorrow

Feel like you’ve heard this song before? Well, you’re not to first to say that. This song has been heavily accused for plagiarism as people claim this sounds like an old song by Andreas Johnson called “Sing for me”. And it is by all means more or less the same shenanigans. Comparisons has also been made with Take That’s “Shine” and some German song called Face to Face by a group nobody cares about and who are obviously just trying to get some PR by jumping on this wave of accusations.

But come on, lets be honest, stealing a little here and there from old song has been done by plenty of Eurovision artists before, and nowadays all songs sound so similar that it’s hard to come up with something completely unique. A Friend in London (What kinda band name is that??) has been around for six years already, and has experienced some moderate success in Denmark and has also toured in the United States and Canada. But it didn’t result in any kind of world domination. Perhaps the ESC can give them that? Naaah…

The bottom line is that this song is pretty boring regardless of whether it’s plagiarism or not. I mean, it doesn’t hurt my ears like many of the other songs, and I see what Denmark is trying to do here. This is totally mainstream pop music that could be played on most radio stations across the world, it doesn’t offend anybody and it won’t distract you while driving a car. But is it enough to win? I highly doubt it. It will pick up a few point here and there, but the song is extremely forgettable and will go by totally unnoticed by most viewers.
