Finland to Save the Planet

Finland: Paradise Oskar - Da Da Dam

This little number is clearly trying to ride the wave of Tom Dice’s surprise success with “Me and My Guitar” from last year. But, sadly, this Finnish guitar hero does not deliver any of the magic that Dice did. The whole song is one big yawn from beginning to end, and it’s conveniently going on as number ten in the first semi-finale, right around the time where you will need a toilet break or perhaps a snack refill.

The guy calls himself Paradise Oskar after a character from an Astrid Lindgren book, but his real name is Axel Ehnström and before entering the national Finnish selections he was totally unknown to most people. “Da da dam” is about a kid named Peter who wants to save the Planet, he fails miserably and now Paradise Oskar is proud to announce that he will pick up where Peter left. A very ambitious plan and I wish Paradise Oskar could have made an equally ambitious song about it. I guess all the energy and creativity went into that “Save The Planet” conspiracy.

The only thing that saves this poor number is Paradise Oskars’ winning smile, he’s cute as candy and will probably pick up a few sympathy votes from grandmas across Europe plus the votes of those twelve year old girls whose parents have already due to poor judgment given them a cellphone. This song has absolutely nothing to offer, it’s a complete bore and make sure to set an alarm for after the song is over, because chances are you will doze off to dreamland after a few seconds.
