Schlagertastic pop from Sweden

Sweden: Eric Saade- Popular

Youngster Eric Saade managed to break all competition in Sweden along with four glass frames - a cheap stage trick he won’t be able to do in Düsseldorf. The message of the song is simple and clear: He wants to be popular, and I'll give him some credit for being honest. I do like it when they sing about something real and self-experienced, instead of all that crap about love and life which nobody has any clue about anyways.

Saade broke loose from the unsuccessful boy-band Whats Up! a couple of years ago to embark on a solo journey. He has released some singles with some success, but his win in the Swedish national ESC final sky-rocketed him into first place on the Swedish charts, and the global betting agencies puts him in a safe top five position. Popular is a descent pop-song, which Britney or Madonna would have been embarrassed to release but pretty perfect for Saade.

The once great ESC nation Sweden has been struggling quite a bit the last few years, but I do predict that this year is gonna bring back the glory to Sweden. I don't think it's a winner, but I won't write it off completely. I do believe this could go over well in both Western and Eastern European countries, which needless to say is a huge advantage. Sweden is definitely this year’s little joker and underdog.

  1. That was awful. That was three minutes I'll never get back. It's like a swedish version of Kjartan Salvesen trying to sing and dance with no luck, while girls at 14 and 40 drool. Awful
