A Maltese beach flirt

Malta: Glen Vella - One Life

Malta is one of those countries who just loves the Eurovision, and who actually still takes the contest very seriously and would love to win. This year, it’s the little beach prince Glen Vella who get’s to shake it up for Malta, and no-one would be happier than him to win the whole thing as the final is actually held on his birthday. So is Glen gonna get the birthday present of a lifetime?

Probably not, as this little dance-number sounds a bit too much like Pet Shop Boys and the performance looks like some old Kylie Minogue number. One life simply feels outdated, but as we all know the ESC is above concepts such as time and space and there is no such thing as an expiration date. Also I’m sure this song will collect quite a few votes from the gay communities as this is a typical gay-club song.

This year’s contest is full of slow and heavy ballads, so it feels quite nice to get a break from all that melancholia. When this song comes on, you’ll be feeling like you’ve just suffered through a long European winter and have finally arrived at the beach in Malta. And just because of that I think Malta actually stands a chance in this years ESC. I have to admit that I think it’s quite a cute little piece and it’s one of those songs I’ll gladly listen to one more time. So go Malta, I’ll be raising the volume again when this one comes on!
