France is one of my all-time favorite countries in the ESC. And this year they have an absolutely breathtaking song which the Eurovision Song Contest has not seen anything like for decades. France is bringing much needed quality back to the competition, and this song gives me the chills every time I hear it. For every listening it just gets better and better, but this is not gonna help in the ESC since you only get to hear this song once. The singer Amaury Vassili is only 21 years old, but his voice is by far the biggest in the competition. He is the Pavoritti of his generation, and is already quite famous in France. His first album sold over 200 000 copies, and the ESC should absolutely put him on the star map all over Europe.
This operatic pop-song does not go wrong anywhere, and Vassili doesn’t make any mistakes, hence there is no reason to assume that his performance will be anything but flawless on the stage in Düsseldorf. France is already the bookmakers favorite, and should they take home the victory it would be the first time in 34 years (!) from this once- upon- a-time Eurovision giant. Germany won last year, perhaps is this the decade where the old ESC nations rises again?
The only problem with this song is that perhaps it is too good for the ESC. Cheesy pop and cheap tricks has been the winning recipe for quite some time now, and I can see this song placing first in many Western European countries, but I’m anxious to see how this opera ballade will go over in for instance Russia and Ukraine. There is no doubt that Vassili and France deserves to win with this masterpiece, but as we all know the, having the best song does NOT guarantee you a win in the ESC.
OMG .. can it be I'll be cheering for France? This is really a GOOOOOD song!!
